THERAPEUTIC MUD TREATMENTS

These treatments use turfs and peloids, which contain many organic substances naturally created in the plant decomposition process. Mud contains a plethora of valuable organic and inorganic substances, including salts. The excellent quality mud used at the Uzdrowisko Ustroń Health Resort is extracted from our own property. After cleansing, mixing with water and heating, a therapeutic substance is obtained which can be used for local compresses, wrapping of the entire body, or baths in oak bathtubs. Lying down is recommended after such treatments.

FANGO – PAIN RELIEF AND STRESS RELIEF

This is a heat-treatment process during which a thin layer of mineral mud is applied to the selected body part. It alleviates neurological pain, supporting the treatment of tendon and muscle attachment diseases. The name of the treatment is based on a traditional Italian word meaning "mud".

Results of the treatment

  • Analgesic effect
  • Improved joint mobility
  • Increased muscle elasticity

MUD FASON – PAIN RELIEF, CLEANSING, RELAXATION, AND BEAUTY

  • Analgesic effect
  • Restored hand and finger dexterity
  • Improved mobility of the small joints of the hands and feet

MUD PHONOPHORESIS – PAIN RELIEF, IMPROVED WELL-BEING, AND MOBILITY

MUD BATH – PAIN RELIEF, CLEANSING, RELAXATION, AND BEAUTY

This treatment involves the slow and gradual overheating of the organism. Intensive sweating is induced, but without a sudden hot flush. The main purpose of the mud bath in biological renewal and rehabilitation is overheating of the tissues, resulting in improved tissue oxidation and nourishment, as well as accelerating the metabolic processes. Hormones contained in the mud are used in the treatment of gynaecological disorders. Mud is recommended particularly in the treatment of locomotor organs. During a mud bath the patient is immersed in a specially prepared mud suspension. In Ustroń, these baths take place in traditional wooden tubs.

Results of the mud bath:

  • Reduced pain
  • Improved mobility and motility
  • Detoxification of the organism
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Anti-inflammatory effect

MUD WRAPPING – PAIN RELIEF, CLEANSING, RELAXATION, AND BEAUTY

During the mud wrapping the patient lies on a wooden bed, and mud is applied to the skin. No other therapeutic baths can be taken on the day of mud wrapping. In summer, the application of mud to newly tanned skin is strictly forbidden. Contraindications to mud wrapping include: cardiovascular problems, advanced osteoporosis, haemophilia, diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, cardiac and peripheral vascular diseases, varicose veins, hypertension, emaciation, and advanced age. During mud wrapping or compresses, sweat, exfoliated epithelium, bacteria and other elements are excreted to the mud from the skin. Therefore the mud is only ever used once.

Results of the mud wrapping:

  • Analgesic effect
  • Improved joint mobility
  • Increased muscle elasticity
  • Cleansing of the organism

BRINE WATER BATHS

The iodide-bromide-chloride brine water in Ustroń has been extracted for over 30 years from two 1,700 metre plus deep wells drilled near the Health Resort Institute. The concentration of the brine water is approximately 12.5%, which places them among the best in Europe. "Ustroń", a deposit of therapeutic Devonian water from which the thermal brine water is obtained, has been classified as therapeutic water by the resolution of the Council of Ministers of 14 February 2006. The therapeutic Devonian water received certificate no. HU-21/WL-1/2008 from the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene, Institute of Health Resort Resources, confirming its medicinal properties. Brine water is tested according to the provisions of the geological and mining law. Moreover, it is subject to strict quantitative and qualitative monitoring.

AQUA AEROBIC – WEIGHT LOSS, ENDURANCE, AND BODY SHAPING

These are recreational classes with music, taking place in the salt water pool with the use of special equipment: buoyancy belts, weights, foam "spaghetti" etc. These devices make exercise more attractive, but primarily they provide relief or additional resistance.

Results of the classes:

  • Improved effort capacity
  • Weight loss
  • Great fun

EXERCISE IN THE BRINBE WATER POOL – PHYSICAL MOBILITY, ENDURANCE, AND INCREASED VITALITY

Taking exercise in brine water is among the most popular forms of physical activity. The pools of the Health Resort Institute have a 3-4% salt content. Due to the specific chemical composition of the brine water, the pool area has a specific therapeutic microclimate. Exercises in salt water pools are recommended for rheumatoid diseases, after injuries and surgeries to the motor organs, for vegetative neurosis, allergies, weight reducing therapies and for body shaping or reducing cellulite.

Results of the exercise in the brine water pool:

  • Improved general effort capacity
  • Pain reduction
  • Strengthening of the organism
  • Improved immune system
  • Delayed ageing processes
  • Positive psychological effects.

PEARL BATH IN BRINE WATER – BEAUTY, RELAXATION, CLEANSING, AND PAIN RELIEF

The bath takes place in a special tub, to which air is supplied. The body massage provided by air bubbles has a relaxing and anti-depressive effect.

Results of the pearl bath:

  • Capillary vasodilation
  • Reduced cellulite
  • Reduced excitability of sensory and motor nerves
  • Increased blood circulation in the skin
  • Normalised blood pressure

BRINE WATER BATHS – HEALTH, STRESS RELIEF, AND PAIN RELIEF

These are among the most important elements of any natural therapy. The iodide-bromide-chloride brine water in Ustroń is extracted from two 1,700 metre plus deep wells drilled near the Health Resort Institute. Their concentration is approximately 12.5%, which places them among the best in Europe. A concentration of 3-4% is used for bathing in the tubs.

Results of the brine water bath:

  • Reduced excitability of sensory and motor nerves
  • Increased blood circulation of the skin
  • Normalised blood pressure
  • Cleansing of the organism

CARBONIC-ACID BATHS – HEALTH, RELAXATION, AND IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE

This treatment uses water with an increased content of carbon dioxide, which is absorbed by the skin and respiratory system. The bath is prepared by mixing water with an anhydride of carbonic acid. Carbon dioxide reduces the perception of water temperature, and improves comfort during the treatment. A relatively low water temperature may be used in the therapy: 32–35°C. This is important for those patients who should not take hotter baths. The anhydride of carbonic acid in the water forms gas bubbles on the skin, which produce effects such as dilation of the arterial and venous capillaries.

Results of the bath:

  • Reduced arterial blood pressure
  • Soothing action and relaxation
  • Reduced symptoms of atherosclerosis
